Faculty Positions
Virology, Entomology and Experimental Pathology
The recently established Asia-Pacific Institute of Tropical Medicine and Infectious Diseases (APITMID) at the John A. Burns School of Medicine, University of Hawaii at Manoa, invites applications for four faculty positions at the Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor levels within the reorganized Department of Tropical Medicine, Medical Microbiology , and Pharmacology. The APITMID is now relocated in to the new Biosciences Research Building, which consists of state-of-the-art laboratories and enhanced BSL-3 laboratory and animal space, to conduct "cutting-edge" research on emerging and re-emerging tropical infectious diseases. Faculty appointments will be at a level commensurate with the successful applicants' experiences and achievements and will be accompanied by appropriate initial startup packages.
Duties: The successful candidates will be expected to establish independent research programs of excellence in infectious diseases/microbial pathogenesis, to compete effectively for national and international funding, collaborate with other principal investigators engaged in various aspects of microbe-host interactions, and contribute actively to graduate training and medical education within the department and the medical school.
Minimum qualifications: Candidates should have an M.D., M.D./Ph.D., Ph.D., D.V.M., or other doctoral degree, ideally three or more years of postdoctoral experience, and a strong research and publication record in microbiology, immunology, pathology or entomology.
Desirable qualifications: Demonstrated expertise in vector-borne and/or zoonotic viral disease pathogenesis, laboratory- and field-based entomology, vector ecology , physiology and taxonomy of medically important arthropods, classical and molecular virology, cellular and molecular immunology, experimental and clinical pathology, comparative pathology, veterinary infectious diseases, cellular and/or animal models of virus-host interactions, or vaccine development and gene therapy. Strong extramural funding record.
